Views

A view is a saved setup of the Contacts or Deals page: its filters, sort, columns, and whether it is a table or a board. Tasks and each list's page have the same switcher, filters, and sorts. The Inbox has its own; see Inbox views and filters.

Switch between views#

The button at the top left of the page names the view you are on. Click it to open the switcher, type in Search views to narrow the list, and click a name to open it. The view you are on shows a check mark, and the address bar carries it, so a reload or a bookmark brings it back.

The first view in the list carries a Default badge. It is where you land when you click Contacts or Deals in the sidebar.

⌘K also opens a view: type its name and pick Open view.

The views you start with#

Contacts begins with two: All Contacts, and Needs follow up, everyone you last spoke to more than four weeks ago, oldest first. A contact you have never spoken to is left out. Deals begins with All Deals as a table, plus a board each for Buyers, Sellers, and Renters.

All of them are ordinary views. Rename them, change them, reorder them, or delete them. Nothing brings them back afterwards.

Table or board#

The Board / Table toggle in the toolbar switches the layout, and the choice is saved with the view. Two views of the same records can differ.

A board needs something to group by. Group by offers Stage on deals, None, and any single-select attribute, such as Type on contacts. On contacts the pill appears only once you have a single-select attribute. Each option becomes a column, with a No value column first. Drag a card to another column to change that value on the record. None makes a flat grid of cards on either board.

A deals board shows one pipeline. The Pipeline pill in the toolbar picks it, and the choice is saved with the view.

Card settings chooses up to five attributes under Visible attributes, shown on each card in the order you drag them, with Show attribute labels and Hide empty attributes switches.

The same Group by works in a table, where it makes collapsible sections instead of columns, with No value last. Brick does not save which sections are collapsed.

A footer under each board column shows one figure for the records in that column. Open Card settings on a board, and find Column footer at the bottom.

  • Show picks None, Total, Average, Lowest, or Highest.
  • Of picks a number attribute. On deals it offers Sale Amount, Gross Commission, Deductions Amount, Net Commission, Tax, Net Commission (incl. Tax), Tax Rate, and your own number attributes. On contacts it offers Budget and your own number attributes.

Every column changes at once, and the footer names your choice, such as Average Net Commission. A deals board starts with Total Sale Amount. A contacts board starts with no footer. Pick None to remove the footer.

Brick skips a record with no value, so an empty budget does not count as zero. A column with no values shows a dash.

The footer is part of the view, so Update view saves it, and each view keeps its own footer.

Filter the records#

Click Filter, type in Search attributes, and press Enter or click an attribute. A pill appears with a condition already chosen and its value box open. Once one pill exists the button shrinks to a +.

A pill has three parts. Click the attribute name to point it at another attribute, the condition to change it, and the value to edit it. Every pill must be true for a record to show; pills combine with AND.

The conditions depend on the attribute. Text offers contains, does not contain, starts with, does not start with, ends with, does not end with, is, is not, is empty, and is not empty, all ignoring case. Numbers offer is, is not, greater than, greater than or equal, less than, less than or equal, is empty, and is not empty, with a money box for currency. Dates offer is, is not, before, after, between, is empty, is not empty, and relative choices such as 1 week ago. Select attributes and stages open a checklist of their options, with a grey Empty row for blank records.

A pill's ⋯ menu (Filter settings) offers Duplicate filter and Delete filter. Convert to advanced filter turns the pill into a group of conditions joined by AND or OR, with one level of nesting.

A column header's menu also offers Add filter, which starts a pill on that column.

Sort the records#

Click Sort and pick an attribute. It sorts ascending at once, and the button becomes a Sort by chip. Click the chip to change the attribute or direction, drag a row by its grip to change which sort applies first, or click Add sort for another. A view holds up to five sorts. Empty values sort last in both directions.

A column header's menu offers Sort ascending and Sort descending as a shortcut. Either one replaces every sort the view has with this single sort.

Change the columns#

Add column at the right end of the header opens a picker. Each click adds or removes a column and the picker stays open. Added columns go on the right.

Drag a header to move a column, and drag the edge between two headers to resize one. Click a header for its menu: Sort ascending, Sort descending, Move left, Move right, Edit column label, Hide from view, and Add filter. The first column has no Move left and the last has no Move right.

Edit column label renames the column in this view only. The attribute keeps its name everywhere else, and Reset to default puts the original back.

Column changes save on their own: the set of columns, their order, their widths, and their labels. They never ask you to update the view.

Save your changes#

Change a filter, a sort, the layout, the grouping, the pipeline, or the card settings, and the toolbar shows Discard changes and Update view. The view is unsaved until you choose.

  • Update view writes the change onto the view you are on.
  • The caret beside it (More save options) offers Save as a new view, which keeps the original as it was and asks for a name.
  • Discard changes puts the view back to its saved state.

Switching to another view while a change is unsaved throws the change away without asking.

Create, rename, duplicate, or delete a view#

Create new view at the bottom of the switcher asks for a title. Click Create (or press ⌘Enter) and it opens a blank view: no filters, the default sort, and only the pinned name column. Add what you need and update it.

Each row in the switcher has a View options menu with Rename, Duplicate, and Delete. Duplicate makes a copy named after the original with copy added, right after the original and opens it. Delete asks first, and you cannot undo it. Deleting the view you are on lands you on the default view.

You cannot delete the last remaining view, so the page always has one.

Favourite and reorder views#

Add to favourites in a view's View options menu puts it in the sidebar's Favourites section, in a folder if you keep any. Renaming the view renames the favourite, and deleting the view removes it. You cannot favourite a view inside a list; favourite the list instead.

To reorder, drag a row by the grip at its left edge. Only the grip drags, so a click never moves a view. Drop a view at the top and it becomes the default. Dragging is off while the search box has text.

Search without changing the view#

The search box beside the switcher (Search contacts or Search deals) narrows the rows by name on top of the view's filters. It is not part of the view, so it never asks you to save, and it clears when you switch views.

A list holds records you pick by hand. See Lists.
