Inbox views and filters
A view is a saved slice of your Inbox, so you never set the same filters twice.
What a view is#
A view remembers a set of filters and a sort under a name you choose. Your views are listed under Conversations in the Inbox's own nav column, on the left inside the page, and switching to one is a single click.
The view you are on is kept in the address bar, so you can bookmark it or reload without losing your place. Whichever view sits first in the list is where a plain visit to the Inbox lands.
Views only change what you see. They never change what Brick notifies you about. That follows its own rule, so editing or deleting a view can never make you miss a client.
Below your views sit four more destinations that are not views at all: Drafts, Outbox, Reminders, and Email Templates.
The views you start with#
Every new account gets five: All Conversations, Emails, Texts, Calls, and Closed.
- All Conversations shows open conversations Brick can tie to a contact, plus calls and texts from numbers it does not recognise. An unknown caller is usually a prospect, while unknown email is usually a newsletter.
- Emails, Texts and Calls are the same idea narrowed to one channel.
- Closed shows the ones you have dealt with.
All five are ordinary views. Rename them, change their filters, reorder them, or delete the ones you do not use. The only rule is that you cannot delete your last remaining view.
Filter a view#
Filters are the pills in the toolbar above the list. Add one with the Filter button. Every pill has to be true for a conversation to show. They combine with AND, never OR.
You can filter on Type (email, text or call), Status (open or closed), Read status, Date, and Contact. There are also filters for Sent or replied by me, Call outcome (answered, missed, voicemail), Email address, and Phone number.
A Contact › group goes further: it filters on anything held on the contact, including fields you added yourself, and through the contact on their deals. For example, everyone with a deal at a given stage.
Save your changes#
Change a view's filters or sort and a prompt appears above the list. It offers Update view, which saves the change onto the view you are on, and Discard changes, which puts it back.
The small caret beside Update view offers Save as a new view instead, which is what you want when the change is a new slice rather than a correction.
Be aware that switching to another view while a change is unsaved throws that change away.
Create, rename, and reorder views#
+ New view at the bottom of the Conversations group makes a blank view and takes you to it. Add your filters, then save.
Each row has a ⋯ menu with Rename, Duplicate, and Delete.
To reorder, hover a row and drag it by the grip that appears. Only the grip drags. Pressing the row itself just switches to that view, so you can never move one by accident. Drop a view at the top and it becomes where the Inbox opens.
