Log a call, text, or meeting
Brick captures the emails from your synced mailbox, the texts and calls on your Brick number, and the meetings in your synced calendar. It does not capture anything else: a call from your own mobile, a message on WhatsApp, or a meeting in a cafe.
Enter one by hand, and Brick counts it as an interaction.
What you can log#
Three kinds: a Call, a Text or a Meeting.
Text covers any messaging app. SMS, iMessage and WhatsApp are all a text.
There is no logged email. A missing email means a mailbox to connect. See Email and calendar accounts.
You log against contacts, never against a deal. A deal reads its dates from the contacts on it, so logging for the contact moves the deal too.
Where to start#
Every button opens the same form. Ask Brick is the exception: it shows a card instead, which Log it by asking covers.
Where the button names a kind, that kind is already chosen, and the contact you started from is already in With.
On a contact record. The action row under the name holds Log activity. The row shows as many actions as the column is wide and puts the rest behind More actions (the ... button at its end), so at the usual width Log activity is a menu item there. Drag the left column wider to bring it out, and Brick remembers that width.
On the Activity block and tab. The Activity block on Overview, and the Activity tab itself, each carry + Log activity at the top right. This is the quickest way in from a record you already have open.
On the Calls, Texts and Meetings tabs. Each carries its own button at the top right: Log a call, Log a text, Log a meeting. When the tab is empty, the same button appears in the empty state, under "You can also log one."
From the Contacts table. Point at an interaction cell, filled or empty, and a + appears at the right of it. On the Call columns it says Log a call, on the Text columns Log a text, on the Meeting columns Log a meeting, and on First Interaction and Last Interaction Log activity. The Email columns and Next Meeting have none. The cells in a contact list work the same way.
Only Last Interaction is on the table to start with. Add the other columns from Add column at the right end of the table, under First Interaction and Last Interaction. See Last interaction and Needs follow up.
From Ask Brick. See Log it by asking, below.
Fill in the form#
The form has four rows.
- What happened: Call, Text or Meeting. You must pick one.
- Date: today to start with. The picker holds a calendar, shortcuts for Today, Tomorrow and Next week, and Add a time, which reveals a time field; Clear time removes it again. With no time the field reads "Sep 18, 2026"; with one it reads "Sep 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM". A date is always needed, so Clear date puts today back rather than emptying the field.
- With: one chip per person who took part. You need at least one, and you can have up to 50. Click the field to open the contact picker and add more; the x on a chip removes it. With nobody picked the field reads Pick a contact.
- Summary: what was said, in your own words. It is optional, and it holds up to 2,000 characters.
Click Log activity to save. Until the form is complete the button stays off; point at it and it says what is missing, such as "Pick what happened: a call, a text or a meeting." or "Pick at least one contact."
A time is optional on purpose. Leave it out and Brick shows the day alone, everywhere the activity appears.
A date that is still ahead#
Brick accepts a date that has not arrived yet. A yellow notice says so: "This date is in the future. It counts as an interaction once it has passed."
Until that moment arrives it changes none of the contact's interaction dates, so Last Interaction can never read "in 3 days".
A Meeting still ahead is the one exception. It fills Next Meeting at once, the same way a booked calendar meeting does, and it drops off Next Meeting once it has passed.
Brick checks every 15 minutes for logged activity whose moment has arrived, so a new one counts within a quarter of an hour of the time you gave it.
What logging changes#
One logged activity changes three things for every contact on it.
- The dates. A logged call moves First and Last Call Interaction, a logged text the Text pair, a logged meeting First Meeting and Last Meeting. All three also move First Interaction and Last Interaction. See Last interaction and Needs follow up.
- Activity. A row appears on the contact's Activity, dated when it happened, not when you typed it.
- The channel tab. It joins the Calls, Texts or Meetings tab and counts towards that tab's badge.
It never appears in the Inbox. The Inbox holds conversations, and a logged activity is a date and a summary, not a thread.
Brick does not check a logged activity against one that syncs later. If you log a meeting and then connect the calendar that holds it, you get two. Delete one of them.
Edit or delete one#
Point at the row, in Activity or in the channel tab, and click Activity options (⋮) at its right.
- Edit reopens the form with everything filled in. You can change any of it, the kind and the contacts included. Save applies it.
- Delete asks first, then removes the row from every contact on it.
After either one, Brick calculates the dates again from what remains, so a value can move back to an earlier interaction. An edit and a delete are safe for that reason: Brick rebuilds the dates instead of leaving them on something you removed.
Log it by asking#
Tell Ask Brick what happened in plain words: "I had coffee with Dana yesterday, she wants to see two more condos before she offers."
Ask Brick looks the people up and shows a Log activity card with four rows: Kind, Date, With and Summary. Nothing is saved yet.
Click any value on the card to change it in place. Edit in the card's header opens the full form instead, with Done in place of the save button; Done hands your changes back to the card and still writes nothing. Click Log activity to save it, or Discard to throw it away. The row then appears on the contact's Activity, the same as one you typed into the form.
Ask Brick works from your real contacts and is built not to invent one. If no contact matches the name you said, it asks who you meant. If several match, it asks which one. The card is still your check: read the names on it before you save.
Two things it will not do. It cannot log an email, and it cannot edit or delete a logged activity; for those, open the contact and use the row's ⋮. It treats something still ahead as a task rather than a log, so "I'm meeting Bob on Tuesday" gets you a task. See Ask Brick.
