Tasks can now repeat on a schedule

Some work comes back every week: the Monday scheduling call, the monthly newsletter, the renewal every year. A task can now repeat. You set it once, and Brick makes the next one on time.

Pick how often#

Open a task, or make a new one. Under Due date, the Repeat row reads Does not repeat. Pick Every day, Every weekday, Every week, Every 2 weeks, Every month or Every year. Each choice is worded for the due date, so a task due on the 8th offers Every month on the 8th and a task due on a Thursday offers Every week on Thu.

Custom… takes every 3 days, every 3 months, or the weekdays you choose. It also holds the end. A repeat ends never, on a date, or after a number of times, so ten follow-ups are ten and not a date you have to work out.

The next one is always there#

Brick makes the next task ahead, and the one due now when its date has already come. When the next date comes, Brick makes the one after it. A repeating task carries a small repeat mark beside its text on the Tasks page, on a board card and on a contact or deal.

Each task in the series is an ordinary task. Complete it, move its date, attach a deal, or delete it, and only that one changes. A task you did not complete stays overdue. It does not move, and it does not disappear.

Change the series, or stop it#

Open any task in the series and change it. On Save, Brick asks whether the change is for this task, this and the following ones, or all of them, the way a calendar asks about a repeating meeting. Pick Does not repeat to stop the series there: the task in front of you stays, and the later ones are removed. View all occurrences under the Repeat row opens the Tasks page with a Task series filter set to the series, so every task it has made is in front of you, done ones included while Show completed is on. The same filter is in the filter bar: pick Task series, or is empty for the tasks that do not repeat.

Ask Brick does it too#

Tell Ask Brick "add a task every Monday to do my weekly scheduling", and it shows you the series to confirm. "Stop the newsletter task from repeating" stops it, after you confirm.

A task has a due date and no time of day, so a repeat has no time either. Brick makes only the next task ahead, never a long list of future ones.
